Ken's Big Band
What Is the Ken Nelson Big Band?
This group was formed about ten years ago by area music educators (many of whom grew up in large metropolitan areas where there were many opportunities to see live jazz)to allow young people to see live jazz and big band music performed in the Wichita Falls area. As things took off we found ourselves playing frequently throughout North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.
We perform for several dance clubs in the area on a regular basis (yes we do cha chas, rhumbas and waltzs along with other traditional ball room dance music.)
We also do concerts for the public schools and sveral charity organizations including the American Cancer Society (see Relay for Life!)
I use area musicians from Wichita Falls and Lawton and frequently tap into the pool of players from the Ft. Sill army band in Lawton, OK.
We are available for hire and can perform everything from Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman to Sinatra and Basie to be-bop and modern jazz (and we can swing a mean polka too!)Call me if you have interest in hiring one of the groups (Ken Nelson- 940-704-5083).
